To mark St.George’s Day, we organised a reception at the Houses of Parliament for MPs and Peers, and other invitees.
It took place in the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Room, adjoining the historic Westminster Hall, in the House of Commons on Thursday, April 23, between 12.30pm and 2.30pm.
The reception started with the arrival of Miss England, Miss Laura Coleman. She arrived in an open-top Lotus Elise, kindly provided by Lotus Cars, and entered Westminster Hall through the main entrance. She was 'processed', accompanied by The Loving Cup of England, through Westminster Hall, to the CPA room where the Loving Cup was handed to Andrew Rosindell MP, the chair of the St.George's Day APPG.
There was several speeches during the reception: Andrew Rosindell MP; John Watson, UK managing director of sponsor Abels Moving Services; and Bruno Peek, described the history of The Loving Cup before Laura Coleman lead the toast to England and St. George.
Between 1.00pm and 1.30pmm, Miss England went out on to Parliament Square to hand out roses to the public so that they remembered that it was St. George’s Day.
The roses for the public, and buttonhole roses were kindly donated by VisitEngland.
The Loving Cup was sponsored by the Newsdesk Media Group.
